Catarina Pereira is a Senior Dissemination and Communication Specialist at Martel Innovate BV. Catarina’s career path started with marketing account management and press consultancy. Before joining Martel, she worked as a Dissemination and Communication team leader and project manager of many Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects in several topics, while co-writing proposals and training her team on Dissemination and Communication management. Currently at Martel, Catarina leads the Communication Task Forces of EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu and Next Generation Internet.
Catarina has a degree in Languages Applied to Business Relations and a bachelor in Communication Sciences from the University of Porto. She speaks Portuguese, Spanish and English.

Europe is currently piloting an open and distributed Web search ecosystem to support European Web search solutions. The core of European Web infrastructure is a substantial Open Web Index, hosted and maintained in a distributed manner across a number of European computing centres. The invited speakers will examine the current state and potential of this initiative. They will also reflect on the challenges in setting up such a cooperative undertaking.
The panel will discuss how start-ups and innovators can build and offer their services based on such the European Open Search infrastructure in the future. The panel will in particular address the overall role of web search in the current and future development of Large Language Models and the potential of an open and distributed web search model to train Large Language Models and build diverse public and commercial Web services at scale while remaining in line with European values and jurisdiction.

Mirko Presser is head of the EngTech section and associate professor in digital business development at Aarhus University. Previously he was head of research and innovation for the smart city lab at the Alexandra Institute working on linked open data and the internet of things. He has been studying and working on digital technologies research since 2000.
Mirko holds a Master’s degree in physics with astrophysics and a Master’s degree in telecommunications and systems engineering, both from the University of Bristol, and received his PhD in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Surrey. He has also been heavily involved in European framework programmes since 2002, and has served as technical manager and coordinator in several projects.
